Dawn Orchid BFL Worsted
100% British Bluefaced Leicester Wool, 166m / 100g
Bluefaced Leicester is a beautiful long-stapled fibre that is both soft and durable – a rare compromise in 100% wool. British BFL in particular, is of exceptionally high quality.
When it comes to sweater yarn, it’s hard to find colours that are subtle enough for modern garments you would wear anywhere, but still rich enough to enjoy knitting. I developed this palette, striving for a perfect balance between muted and rich. I also purposefully made colours that could be used together in colourwork.
Dawn Orchid Stellina Sock
75% Superwash Merino / 20% Nylon / 5% Stellina, 400m / 100g
This stellina sock is my excuse to create the bright and brilliant colours. A sparkling yarn deserves a vibrant dye. While the BFL worsted is beautiful and mature, the stellina palette is fun and pretty.
Dawn Orchid BFL Fingering
100% Bluefaced Leicester Wool in 2 skein sizes: (1) 82m / 25g (2) 377m / 115g
This yarn is the primary reason I am dyeing yarn. Fairisle knitting is a lot of fun, but some people find Shetland wool itchy. And yet… wool needs to be sticky enough to steek. Untreated Bluefaced Leicester is a nice, soft, steek-able yarn. And yet… do you really want to buy 100g of each colour to make a little hat or a pair of mitts?
This yarn is the answer to everything. Bluefaced Leicester dyed in 25g skeins in a wide palette, is perfect for small projects and fairisle projects. If you’re working on a larger project, every colourway is also available in 115g. Just order it from Galt House of Yarn, and I’ll dye it up quickly! I always keep plenty on hand.
This yarn comes in ALL of the colours above, as well as this 1 bonus colour. There will be many many more. This palette will continue to grow over the years to come.
